If you start the system check or a video appointment and no prompt appears asking you to allow camera and microphone access (that is, no browser pop-up where you could click "Allow"), it's almost always due to a setting on your device or browser — not MeetOne.
Here are the most common causes and what you can do about them.
How to recognize the problem
Typical signs:
- You open the system check and click Start, but no browser prompt appears.
- The system check shows that your camera or microphone isn't allowed, even though you never saw a prompt.
- When starting a video appointment, the camera picture stays black and there's no sound.
- The problem occurs in more than one browser (for example both Chrome and Safari).
If the problem occurs in several browsers at the same time, it's very likely caused by an operating system setting rather than the browser. Browsers don't share this setting with each other, but they all depend on the operating system.
Fix for Mac (macOS)
On a Mac, the browser first needs permission from the operating system to access the camera and microphone at all. Without that permission, the browser can't even ask you for access.
- Open System Settings (Apple menu, top left → "System Settings…").
- Select "Privacy & Security" on the left, then click "Camera".
- Make sure the toggle next to your browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge) is turned on.
- Repeat the same steps under "Microphone".
If you make a change here, macOS may ask you to quit and restart the browser — please do so, otherwise the change won't take effect.
If Screen Time is enabled, the camera can additionally be blocked there: System Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy → App Restrictions, and make sure "Camera" is allowed.
If you previously clicked "Block", the browser won't ask again. Here's how to reset that:
- Google Chrome: Click the lock icon next to the address bar → Site settings → set Camera and Microphone to "Ask (default)" or "Allow" → reload the page.
- Safari: Menu Safari → Settings → Websites → select "Camera" on the left and set "Ask" or "Allow" for the MeetOne website. Repeat for "Microphone".
- Firefox: Click the lock icon in the address bar → click the X next to "Camera" and "Microphone" to remove an existing block → reload the page.
Fix for Windows
Windows also has a central privacy setting that can block apps and browsers from accessing the camera and microphone.
- Open Settings (Windows key + I).
- Select "Privacy & security" (Windows 11) or "Privacy" (Windows 10), then "Camera".
- Make sure "Camera access", "Let apps access your camera" and "Let desktop apps access your camera" are turned on.
- Repeat the same steps under "Microphone".
Reset the site permissions in your browser the same way as described in the Mac section above.
Fix for iPhone and iPad (iOS)
- Open Settings → Safari (or the relevant browser app) and scroll to "Settings for Websites".
- Tap "Camera" and make sure "Ask" or "Allow" is selected. Repeat for "Microphone".
- Also check under Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera (and Microphone) that the browser app is enabled in the list.
Fix for Android
- Open Settings → Apps and select your browser (e.g. Chrome).
- Tap "Permissions".
- Make sure "Camera" and "Microphone" are set to "Allow".
Special cases
Work or school devices: If you're using a device managed by an employer, school or other organization, IT may have centrally blocked camera and microphone access. In that case, contact your IT department and ask them to enable access for your organization's MeetOne website, or use a personal device if possible.
Antivirus software: Some security programs (e.g. Kaspersky, ESET, Bitdefender, Norton) have their own "webcam protection" that blocks camera access. Open your antivirus software's settings, look for "webcam protection" or "camera protection", and add your browser to the list of allowed programs, or temporarily disable the protection.
External camera or microphone: Briefly disconnect the device from your computer and reconnect it. Check whether it works in other programs (e.g. the camera app). For Bluetooth headsets, make sure the device is connected and selected as the default microphone.
Common problems
- Still no prompt after all these steps? Run the system check again — if your camera or microphone still doesn't work there, the issue is certainly with your system or browser settings, not MeetOne.
- It only works in one browser? Repeat the browser steps above for the affected browser — the operating system is unlikely to be the cause in that case.
- Nothing helps? Contact support. It helps to know: your operating system and its version, your browser and its version, whether the problem occurs in one browser or several, whether the camera works in other programs, and whether the device is personal or managed.
