Screen sharing runs as a technically separate connection from the main video call. Because of this, your camera and audio can keep working normally while only the screen share freezes or stays black.
Black screen when sharing (Mac)
The most common cause on a Mac is a missing screen recording permission.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.
- Make sure your browser (e.g. Chrome or Firefox) is enabled in the list.
- If you just changed the setting, restart your browser so the change takes effect.
Screen share keeps freezing
- Close browser tabs and applications you don't need, to free up bandwidth and processing power.
- Use a LAN cable instead of WiFi if possible, or sit closer to your router.
- If you have a high-resolution display (e.g. 4K or Retina), share a single window instead of your entire screen — this significantly reduces the bandwidth needed.
- Keep the browser tab with MeetOne active in the foreground while sharing. Some browsers throttle sharing when the tab moves to the background.
Bandwidth needed
A stable screen share needs at least 2 Mbps of upload speed, more for high-resolution displays. You can test your speed at speedtest.net.
Stop and restart the screen share
If none of the above helps:
- Stop the screen share and start it again.
- Ask the other person to reload the page (F5 or Ctrl/Cmd+R).
- If in doubt, leave the video call and rejoin.
Browser recommendation
For screen sharing, we recommend a current version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. If sharing consistently doesn't work reliably in one browser, try the other.
iPhone and iPad
Screen sharing is limited on iOS devices.
- Use a computer for screen sharing if possible.
- Don't switch to another app while sharing — this can stop the transmission.
