Choppy video, audio that breaks up, or a connection that repeatedly drops is, in most cases, related to your internet connection or how busy your device is.
Internet speed needed
| Quality | Download | Upload | Latency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | 1 Mbps | 1 Mbps | under 300 ms |
| Standard | 3 Mbps | 3 Mbps | under 150 ms |
| HD quality | 5 Mbps | 5 Mbps | under 100 ms |
You can check your current speed at, for example, speedtest.net.
Use a wired connection instead of WiFi
A wired connection is more stable than WiFi.
- Use a LAN cable if possible.
- If only WiFi is available, sit closer to your router, ideally without walls in between.
Turn off your VPN
An active VPN can slow down your connection or add extra latency.
- Turn off a VPN during the video call if possible.
- If a VPN is required (e.g. on a work device) and problems persist, contact your IT department.
Close other programs and tabs
Other applications and browser tabs use bandwidth and processing power that the video call needs.
- Close browser tabs you don't need.
- Quit background applications, especially downloads, cloud sync, or streaming.
- Ask others on the same network to avoid large downloads during your appointment.
Mobile data (4G/5G)
If you're connected via mobile data instead of WiFi, quality can vary more. Switch to WiFi if possible, or move to a location with better reception.
During the call, the Call Health panel in the call controls shows you how good your connection currently is.
