You've selected AirPods or another Bluetooth headset as your microphone, the microphone is on – and the other person still can't hear you. This guide explains the most common cause and how to fix it.

How to recognize the problem

  • You can hear the other person fine, but your voice doesn't come through.
  • In MeetOne, the microphone is on and the headset is selected.
  • With the built-in microphone of your computer or smartphone, you can be heard.

Depending on your browser, MeetOne also shows the notice "Your microphone isn't picking up any sound."

The most common cause: AirPods switch devices automatically

If your Mac, iPhone and iPad are signed in with the same Apple Account, AirPods switch on their own to whichever device is currently playing audio – for example when a call or a voice message comes in on your iPhone. In your video appointment, the AirPods may then still be selected as the microphone but no longer deliver any sound to the device the appointment is running on.

The same can happen if you also open the appointment link on a second device: the AirPods then connect to that device. Other Bluetooth headsets that are paired with several devices at once can behave the same way.

How to fix it

Open the appointment on one device only

Open the appointment link only on the device you're joining with. If you want to switch devices during the appointment, leave the appointment on the previous device first.

Turn off automatic switching for your AirPods

This keeps your AirPods connected to the device the appointment is running on. Your AirPods need to be connected to the device for this.

On a Mac:

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Click the name of your AirPods in the sidebar. You may need to scroll down.
  3. Below Connect to This Mac, choose When Last Connected to This Mac. If you don't see that option, click Audio & Routing first.

On iPhone and iPad:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap the name of your AirPods near the top.
  3. Tap Connect to This iPhone (on iPad: Connect to This iPad) and choose When Last Connected to This iPhone. If you don't see that option, tap Audio & Routing first.

The setting only applies to the device you change it on. Apple describes it in detail in Switch AirPods between Apple devices.

Check before the appointment that your audio comes through

  1. Put in your AirPods and open the appointment link.
  2. On the join screen, click the small arrow on the Microphone button and select your AirPods.
  3. Say a few words. The level indicator next to the Microphone button should move.
  4. Only then click Join now.

You can also select and test the microphone on its own in the device test of the system check.

If it happens during the appointment

  • Click the small arrow on the Microphone button and select your device's built-in microphone. Ask whether the other person can hear you now.
  • If you want to keep using your AirPods, reconnect them in your device's Bluetooth settings and then select them in MeetOne again.
