The televisite feature lets you give an external physician time-boxed read access to a patient's record — for example to get a professional second opinion on an ongoing consultation.
Prerequisites
- The Televisite feature must be enabled for your account.
- Only doctors can set up external access; this feature isn't available to medical assistants.
Set up access
- Open the patient record for the patient in question and select the External access section.
- Click Invite physician.
- In the Invite external physician dialog, enter the Physician name, Email address, and Mobile number.
- Under Access valid for, choose how long the access should last (24, 72, or 168 hours).
- Optionally add the Professional ID (LANR/EFN, optional) and a Legal basis / note (optional).
- Confirm the checkbox stating a legal basis for this disclosure exists (for example patient consent / release from confidentiality).
- Click Send invitation.
The invited person receives a link by email — with no patient data included — and a separate 6-digit code by SMS. Both are needed to gain access.
What the external physician sees
The grant covers the entire patient record in read-only mode — not just a single consultation. Once signed in, the external physician sees the overview, all consultations with their notes, measurements, documents (including download), master data such as allergies, chronic conditions, medication and insurance details, as well as prescriptions and questionnaires. They can also export the master data via PVS export (GDT), Export (FHIR) or Export (TXT), for example to import it into their own practice management system.
The external physician cannot edit or create entries. The one exception: they can mark the consultation they were invited to as completed.
Before inviting, check that the legal basis you rely on (for example your patient's consent or release from confidentiality) covers disclosure of the entire record. Restricting a grant to individual consultations or sections is not currently possible.
If needed, you can also set up a shared video call with the invited person via Schedule an appointment in the Appointments section of the patient record; the call is attached to an active consultation. Show activity on each grant shows what the invited person did — for example when they opened the link, viewed the record, or exported data.
Revoke access
In the External access section, click Revoke on the grant in question and confirm the prompt. Anyone already signed in is logged out immediately, and any scheduled video appointment is cancelled.
Without a manual revocation, access ends automatically once the chosen validity period expires.
Common problems
- I don't see the "External access" section or the "Invite physician" option. The feature may not be enabled for your account, or you're signed in with a medical assistant account.
- The invited person can't get into the record. The link must be opened first before the SMS code can be requested — also check the email's spam folder.
- The access has already expired. Set up a new access grant with a new validity period.
