If your camera shows a black screen during a video call, it's usually one of a few simple causes. Work through the points below in order.
Another application is already using the camera
A camera can only be used by one application at a time.
- Close other applications that might be using the camera, such as Zoom, Teams, Skype, or FaceTime.
- Also close other browser tabs that use the camera or microphone.
- Reload the MeetOne page afterwards.
Wrong camera selected
If your computer has more than one camera (e.g. a built-in one and an external USB camera):
- During the call, open Settings via the gear icon.
- Under General settings, select the correct device under Camera.
Operating system-level permission
Mac: Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and make sure your browser is enabled.
Windows: Open Settings → Privacy & security → Camera and make sure camera access is allowed.
Restart your browser after making a change.
Camera is covered or not properly connected
- Check whether a privacy cover, cap, or slider is blocking the camera.
- For an external USB camera: unplug the cable briefly and reconnect it. Try a different USB port if possible.
Restart your browser
If none of the steps above help:
- Close the browser completely and restart it.
- If the problem persists, restart your device as well.
- Test with a different browser to rule out a browser-specific issue.
You can test your camera independently of MeetOne by running the system check.
